MICBT Programs – Frequently Asked Questions

What happens if I miss a class?

If you have to miss one of the 8 classes, you will be able to follow the course with the weekly notes or we can offer a catch-up session. If you miss two sessions in row you may find it harder to keep up.

How much do I have to speak in the course?

Each week we share how we are going with the meditation practices and we learn from each other. This is not group therapy – it is group training – training participants with a series of skills and tools to help manage thoughts and emotions.

How much is the course?

The standard fee is $450 payable at the start of the course.

We are committed to making the course accessible to as many people as possible so we offer a range of discounts and payment plans for students/concession card holders/ pensioners/ financial hardship. You can make a request through our office.

Is the course suitable for everyone?

The course is suitable for many people but not for everyone. We interview everyone who applies to join the course and check on depression, anxiety and stress levels. Those with severe and complex mental health conditions may be recommended to have individual therapy.

What happens at the end of the course?

At the end of the 8 weeks participants are invited to attend the free online meditations we offer. There are three sessions each week – live online with one of our instructors.

And you have access to all the audio tracks as well as notifications of refresher programs.

How much meditation practice am I supposed to do?

You will need to set aside time for practice each day just as you would if you wanted get fit – if you join a gym but never practice the exercises you won’t get fit! Remember that we are creating new neural pathways for which we need practice. Our research indicates that those who can manage to do two practices each day (20-30 mins) see experience the most rapid changes.
